N.C. is fourth-fastest growing state
By From Staff Reports

Despite the economic downturn, North Carolina's population jumped 2 percent from July 2007 to July 2008, making it the fourth-fastest growing state in the country, the U.S. Census Bureau said today.

The new numbers, however, do reflect a slowing of North Carolina's growth rate. From July 2006 to July 2007, the state's population grew by 2.17 percent. The year before that, it grew by 2.19 percent.

The state had an estimated population of 9.2 million as of July 1, the Census Bureau said.
